I just read an intresting article about Daniel Negreanu and that he analyzed the ROI in WPT tournaments for a bunch of players. Not very surprisingly the money seem to float around with only a few top players that make “real money” playig in the events. This makes me question who really make money on these events, the players or the organizers?
Pokerplayers have a tendency to only mind their own business and care for nobody else, even if a few groups that share knowledge and even bankrolls have emerged. If pokerplayers were better organized they could put some pressure on the organizers of these events and maybe negotiate rake away and even take a cut of the advertising income. That would increase the ROI for all poker players and the money that is spent by players aroudn these events would stay in the family. Unfortunately no organizations and groups have managed to get anywhere with this question. For example that we pay rake in WSOP is insane considering how much Harrahs make on advertising and TV rights alone. Too bad nobody cares enough to put some time into it…
