Malmö Open main event. I went to Malmö to represent PokerTime in one of my absolute favourite tournaments. Great casino and maybe even more important, I’ve done well there in the past =)
I was a couple of minutes late to the casino after a nice breakfast/lunch with my sister. Had a few familiar faces at my table and was looking forward to an entertaining day of poker. My plan to sit down and see what’s what before I start making my moves didn’t go as planned. I picked up a few good hands early on, but lost all the pots I played, fortunately small ones.
One of the early hands I played that got a little bigger was this one. I call a raise to 300 (blinds 50-100) with TT and another player comes in behind. The flop is 755 and the raiser bets 1100, I call and the player behind miniraise to 2200. The raiser folds and I call. The turn is a 3 and he checks. The river is an ace and he bets 2200. My read is that he does not have a 5 and the ace is a blank unless he has A7 which is possible. I deceide to call and he flips JJ for the winning hand and a nice valuebet. In hindsight I wish I would have raised cause he would more or less have been forced to fold.
I limp with QQ and a player behind raise to 300 which another player calls. Back to me and I intend to make it 1200, but drop a 500 chips and I only make it 700. The first raiser calls and the other player folds. It’s a good flop for my hand. J82 witha flushdraw. I bet 1525 and he miniraise. I couldn’t help but wonder, why does everybody miniraise?!? I called. Turn 3. He bet 4k and I only have 10k left = all in or fold. I fold and hope that my read on the turn that he had a strong had was right, he told me aces and for once I actually believed a poker player.
I limp in with 44 and 5 players see the flop 468. Checked around. Turn Q I bet 400 and get raised by the guy in the big blind to 1200. I call, river 9. He bets 3300 and I have to call since he might as well have a good twopair like Q8 and not 57. Of course he has 57 and takes down the pot.
4 players limp and I look down at AJ in BB. With 800 in the pot and 2100 in my stack it’s a great oppurtunity to squeeze and increase my stack with little risk. I move all in and the first 3 players fold and the guy in the small blind calls which puzzles me. He flips 66 and it’s a coinflip. The flop is 754 and coinflip no more. The turn gives me hope with a J and a comment from the rail ”That’s right, one time” jinxed it and the river 3 sealed my faith.
It was the first time I didn’t make it to day 2 in this event. I never got anything going in the event and everything went wrong in every pot that I played. Only comfort is I guess that it is better to bust early than make it to day 2 and semi bubble like last two years…
Even though I busted, it’s always a pleasure to play in Malmö which in my opinion is the best casino in Sweden (only in contest with Sundsvall). The food was great, service better than ever and as usual everything goes as planned when Casino Cosmopol arranges tournaments. Except for my game that is….
