You have to know when not to..

..play.  Yesterday the main event of the Spring Week at Casino Cosmopol started.  I had planned to participate, but when I realized that the tournament would get overbooked and go until Sunday, I couldn’t play.  I already had other plans on Sunday and playing a tournament where you can’t play the final table if you go that far seems pointless.  There’ll be more tournaments…

Dissapointed but yet pleased

Termintator tournament at Cosmopol

Tried to analyze my tournament play after last night and lately in general and change a few things.  Smaller tournaments like these are perfect for experimenting.  Everything worked according to plan at first and I got away with all my moves and built up my stack a bit.  I stayed above average for a long time.  101 players came t play and fight for the 9 prizes, but only top 3 were really interesting.  Somewhere in the mid-tournament stage with a little less than 50 players left I ran out of steam and started to wait for hand instead of using position and situations to steal pots.  I finally found a good spot after two limpers and a push (11k) from the button who very likely realized that this was the perfect spot to steal.  I re-pushed (17k) from the small blinds with my only pair for the day, 66 (blinds 600-1200).   I read the situation right, but didn’t expect the first limper to call with 88.  The button shows  A9.  The flop is T9542and I bust in about 30th, realizing that I could have done better by beeing a little more active in the mid-stage of the event.  Next time…

Tourney no1

Played the first event here yesterday. 3000 SEK second chance with 20k in starting chips and blinds starting at 25-50. 55 players. You could use your 2nd chance when you had no chips during the first 6 levels. With so many starting chips I never thought anybody would need to use it, but already the 2nd hand at our table somebody had to use it.  And it wasn’t in a set-vs-set kinda rig either it was a 6 high bluff called down by QQ on a board of 8872K on the river.  Our table turned out to be a little crazy and for a while it almost seemed like the whole table thought it was UL rebuy and not a 2nd chance event. It was a very nice table, both because of the crazy action and because of the company.  Both Mattias Ericsson and Stefan Odelberg was at my table and kept the table talk going throughout the event.

I had some big swings early on, but eventually had a small rush and had 65k when we had our dinner break.  After dinner I lost a 30k pot with AK vs KJ all-in pre flop. I rebuilt nice and easy to 70k again and then our table broke.

At my new table I pick up KK after a guy openshoved about 45k and I call obviously.  The pot is rather big and important at this stage with 16 players left (6 prizes). Unfortunately it would be the start of an anti-rush when my opponent hits a Q on the turn.

I call an all in with A9 vs Q5, Q on the river

I go all in with about 70k with A5 over a button raise to 20k (blinds 3-6k), playing 5 handed with 10 players left.  I get called by QJs.  The board gives me maximum sweat and pain with a scary flop KT4KA, a good turn blocking some of his outs giving me a 4-flush and the knock out punch on the river.

Finished 10th and bubbled the final table., 6 prizes. Let’s hope I can do better tomorrow (today Tuesday) in the Terminatorevent!

I’ll be back!!

Time for a tournament

On monday I’m playing a tournament again.  My first in a long time without a sponsor backing me.  Feels weird, but exciting!  The tournament on Monday is one of 3 I’m playing in the Spring Poker Week at Casino Cosmopol in Gothenburg.  I got homefield advantage and don’t have to travel! What could be better?!  I hope I see you there!  Until then, have a great weekend!!

$5 million

…goes to the winner of Phil Ivey’s latest prop bet.  He bet Howard Lederer that he could take down 2 bracelets in two years (2010-2011).  Definately possible, but tough even if you’re Phil Ivey.  The sum of the bet is enormous, but for two of the major share holders of Full Tilt maybe not so much?

Phil Iveys latest prop bet was no success.  You might remember that he bet Durrr $1 miljon to become a vegetarian for a year but bought out for $150k after only a few weeks.

Mr Ivey and me

There has been a lot of talk about Ivey the last few days and there has been rumors that his father (?) has been spotted in a video from a Bob Marley concert. Not sure why this is interesting no matter if it is true or not?! (see the video here, “the father” appears 18s into the video).  I think the video proves that there are too many people with too much time on their hands… :D
